			The park hosted the annual Orphans' Day Picnic on Wednesday, July 2. The event committee consisted of Charles M. Seibert, Jr., chairman; Major and Mrs. Walter Collins of the Volunteers of America; Guy Winegartner; Frank R. Schwartz; Dr. E. E. Smith; and M. A. Pixley. Last year, 500 children attended the event. Park management opened the park to the children and provided free rides and entertainment. Major and Mrs. Collins recruited 100 automobile drivers to transport the children to and from the park, while Police Chief French cleared the south side of Broad Street from High to Third Street that morning.
